The Aetherius Society acted swiftly in the recent conflict between Russia and Georgia, sending out 45,000 hours of energy, through Operation Space Power II, in just six days.
On August 8th war erupted between Russia and Georgia over the small, independently governed enclave of South Ossetia. The politically complex dispute lying behind this sudden eruption of hostilities had been rumbling on since the early 1990s, made all the more sensitive by the wish of Georgia, once part of the Soviet Union, to ally itself with the West and join NATO.
The area is claimed by the government of Georgia as part of theit country, a claim acknowledged by the United Nations. It is, however, disputed by South Ossetian separatists and others who feel affinity with Russia. Russia, for its part, has over recent years issued Russian passports to most people who live there.
When Georgia attacked Tskhinvali, the South Ossetian separatist stronghold, Russia responded with a show of overwhelming force, invading both South Ossetia and other parts of Georgia, and the situation turned into a fully blown war. It was the first time for many decades that one sovereign country in continental Europe had been invaded by another. To add to the conflict, separatists in another Georgian enclave, Abkhazia, joined in.
On the morning of Saturday 9th, The Aetherius Society brought its forces to bear, in an attempt to avert an ever-worsening crisis. Amid a climate of claim and counter-claim, accusation and counter-accusation, political chicanery and deepening bloodshed in this far-off area, the London Spiritual Energy Radiator sprang into action at midday, less than two hours after Senior Engineering Officers, who direct its operations, first became aware of the situation. Unable to pinpoint more precise targets, the activity was aimed at ‘relief and peace in South Ossetia’. On the 9th the two English SERs ran for four hours each, sending out Spiritual Energy to the crisis continually until 8pm that day. The New Zealand and London SERs continued on the Sunday for a total of six hours, and over the following four days the London SER performed two two-hour runs each day, concluding on Thursday 14th, making a total of 30 hours of running – 45,000 Prayer Hours sent to the stricken area.
On the 12th Russia and Georgia agreed a ceasefire. On the 14th South Ossetia and Abkhazia approved the ceasefire agreement.
It is, of course, impossible to know what effect Spiritual Energy sent by The Aetherius Society to help avert the conflict had. What we can say is that the fragile politics of this area meant that a war here was widely seen as imperilling the peace of the entire Caucasus region. While the after-effects of this war will probably rumble on for a long time, we can be certain that such a powerful charge of energy will have helped to bring the conflict to a speedy, even if as yet uncertain, resolution. It is another example of how The Aetherius Society can mobilise on the subtle levels in order to help create a climate in which peace can break out.
